The Ridgard seats are a superb solution for road and period competition cars alike. Under competitive conditions, they provide a great level of confidence and support with no restrictions.
The Ridgard seats installed some 30 years ago into my 1963, Rally Prepared, FIA MGB , BGS 861A had served extremely well. They had to be of a high-quality standard as originally used all those years ago by the likes of Sir Stirling Moss, Roger Clark, Tony Mason, Don Barrow and Ron and Malcolm Gammons. However, after a busy 6 years since I have owned the car, I was beginning to feel that they were in need of some TLC.
When needed, Ridgard were there to help. They took the seats back into the factory for refurbishment to my requested specification. Installing fresh supportive padding, retaining the original centre panel patina and reworking the heavily worn side supports with replacement original cloth to provide a superb seamless crafted solution that I am delighted with.

In July 2016 I fell down stairs at home and broke my neck and fractured my skull. There followed an operation to fuse the vertebrae and a lengthy period of recovery. Unfortunately after an hour or two in many modern cars the pain in my neck increases so I thought competing in long distance trials and rallies would no longer be possible.
However, after a long, comfortable trip in Andy Smith's FIA MGB I felt confident enough agree to navigate for nearly 24 hours on an event. Since then I have navigated and had the privilege of driving the car for many hours and we have enjoyed success in competitive events
In my opinion the Ridgard seats superbly designed for purpose and enable me to enjoy competing in rallies and trials for the foreseeable future.

A legacy in the making
Ridgard Classic Seats were established in the early 60's by Bob Ridgard when he arrived in the UK from South Africa. Working with some of the top teams in racing, as racing cars became faster in a straight line but more importantly in the corners, Bob pioneered and perfected the steel frame design, using full suspension for back and base, safety belt locators and developed the first seat to have head support. All now universally used.
Exhibiting round the world throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s in South Africa, Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Tokyo, Ridgard Classic Seats built a Worldwide reputation for design, safety and quality.
A keen racer himself with his Chevrolet Camaro and Alfa Romeo Alfetta, Bob won the Barn Ruche Saloon Driver of the Year Trophy in 1996.
Bob sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer in July 2019. Both daughters Lucy and Claire have both worked in the business and are passionate about continuing the legacy of Ridgard Classic Seats.
