  • MG Week at Ridgard Seats

So here at Ridgard Seats we are getting busy, it must be the cold weather coming in, nights drawing in and everyone getting on with their projects. This week we are having an MG themed week indeed.

After meeting Andy Smith and his wonderful MGB BGS 861A at Goodwood Revival where he had been asked to display the car in the Sir Stirling Moss tribute. We were honoured to be given the opportunity to refurbish the Classic Ridgard RS9 Rally seats in his car. After nearly 20 years of hard work it was time to refresh them. Of course we want to keep as much patina and character as possible….and we certainly will! On closer examination I have to say that they have stood up very well…in fact Andy says that they have been in the car since it was built and it has now covered over 50,000 miles. So we will keep you up to speed with these.

At the same time we are just about to build a pair of RS1s to a very high specification for a beautiful MGB GT V8. Now we can’t say any more until the customer gives us permission and we hope when he sees them he certainly will. We think that the colour combination he has chosen will be pretty awesome with the colour of the car….more to follow.

So once MG week is finished, we are on to a lovely pair of tartan inlay RS4s for a very nice Triumph TR6. Again more to follow on that project.

It seems that being able to choose the colour combination for your seat in virtually any material then turning them round in a 4 to 6 week period is keeping us busy, so thank you for that.

Keep watching this space for more inspirational ideas!

  • A Word from the MD - Feb 2021

Having been involved in motorsport since 2013, I am well aware of the need for a supportive and comfortable seat.  My own competition classic car had Ridgard seats fitted back then and I have never looked back.  At each event, I have no worry with back, shoulder or neck pain.  The seats are superbly made and I wouldn’t be without them now.

You are very welcome to come to our workshop to try them out for yourself!

  • Ridgard Back in the Market - Jan 2021

We have great plans for the future development of the company and products."

A legacy in the making

Ridgard Classic Seats were established in the early 60's by Bob Ridgard when he arrived in the UK from South Africa. Working with some of the top teams in racing, as racing cars became faster in a straight line but more importantly in the corners, Bob pioneered and perfected the steel frame design, using full suspension for back and base, safety belt locators and developed the first seat to have head support. All now universally used.

Exhibiting round the world throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s in South Africa, Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Tokyo, Ridgard Classic Seats built a Worldwide reputation for design, safety and quality.

A keen racer himself with his Chevrolet Camaro and Alfa Romeo Alfetta, Bob won the Barn Ruche Saloon Driver of the Year Trophy in 1996.

Bob sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer in July 2019. Both daughters Lucy and Claire have both worked in the business and are passionate about continuing the legacy of Ridgard Classic Seats.
